Rocquette from Starboard Quarter

Designed to beat the Sparkman & Stephens designed "Clarion" of 1963, the aptly named Rocquette was raced by Peter Nicholson throughout 1964. In her first year, she won the Gold Roman Challenge Cup in the Round-the-Island Race against a fleet of 325 boats, an outstanding achievement, and went on to win the Britannia Cup, the New York Yacht Club Cup, and the Coronation Bowl.
In 1966, Yachting World Annual described Rocquette as the first of "a distinctly new type of offshore racer" and her design led to later Peter Nicholson yachts such as Quiver IV and Noryema IV, who were both part of the victorious British Admirals Cup team of 1965, as well as influencing the Illingworth-designed Gypsy Moth IV of Sir Francis Chichester fame.

Rocquette gives you a fast stylish way to see the Greek Isles. Set yourself apart from the hoards of plastic yacht charterers when you tie up in something very special

Rocquette, a 42’ CAMPER & NICHOLSON classic sloop will be based in the Mediterranean for the 2007 season. She is in superb condition having just completed an extensive renovation on the Continent.

She will be available as a bareboat charter for those qualified and on a berth basis for other members.

Rocquette is based in Lavrion, just a short and inexpensive journey from the UK (flight to Athens then a 30 minute taxi journey). This base provides easy access to both the Cyclades and the Saronic Gulf

We are particularly excited to welcome her into the club because it was this seminal design which brought Peter Nicholson's name to the fore as a yacht designer.

Lightly constructed, with laminated mahogany frames and two skins of planking, she was the first British ocean racer to have a flush deck (lots of space for sunbathing) - made of two skins of plywood glued to laminated spruce deck beams - and had a small doghouse set well aft.

Plenty of Deck for sunbathing

Accommodation comprises; foredeck sail bin area, fore cabin with double berth to port and single to starboard, portside heads compartment, with hanging locker opposite, main saloon with single settee/berth each side, chart table to starboard aft at bottom of companionway and quarter berth aft of this, galley to port at bottom of companionway.
